The velvet manicure is a trend that I wasn't sure about at first, but like most nail trends in the end I realized I had to give it a try!
Born Pretty Store sent me their dark blue flocking powder, which also comes with tweezers and a brush.
Looking at a bunch of loose flocking powder and then at my blank nails I thought creating the manicure might be a bit of a daunting task, but it didn't give me any trouble.
I painted my nails with a dark blue polish I already had (China Glaze First Mate) and then I used the tweezers to take a small amount of flocking powder out and sprinkled it over my nail before the polish could dry. Then I used the tweezers to pat the flocking powder down and make it stick. Lastly, I used the brush to sweep off the excess.
This isn't the cleanest manicure of course, but cleanup wasn't a problem for me. I did my nails over a tissue, and was able to use the product that fell onto it so I wasn't wasting too much. My fingers were a little fuzzy when I finished doing my nails, but a little acetone was able to easily sweep it off.
After seeing how my nails turned out I am definitely on board with this trend! I wouldn't choose it for an everyday manicure, the velvety texture is a magnet for little pieces of fuzz so it doesn't stay pristine for long. However, it's perfect for a special occasion or to go with a fun outfit.
If I'm ever thinking of channeling the Heathers or my favorite 90's television characters in my outfit, a velvet manicure could be the perfect addition.
The flocking powder, tweezers, and brush are sold together for $7.99. The container of powder seems to hold quite a bit of product and you don't need much, I think you could get quite a few fun manicures out of this!
And don't forget you can get 10% off any BPS purchases using the coupon code BRJ61!
I have exactly the same flocking powder and I enjoyed to have it on my nails. It is a very interesting feeling to have fluffy nails :)
ReplyDeletei am in love with this look, i have to try it out...it's just so awesome! ;)))))
ReplyDeleteI did not like this look at all when it first was showing up late last yr...some reason this past mo. I am wanting to try it. $7.99 not a bad price for a full kit - still I might look first at the craft store to see what colors they have in 'fur' and if they have anything other than neon brights might go that route first. Guess it dries off fast after you wash your hands and does OK when you shampoo your hair? Like this color - it's not so 'in your face' as all the brights I have seen - going over to look at what other shades BP has.
ReplyDeletemy only two questions (because I want to try this) is can you wash your hands? does the flocking tend to start coming off on everything you touch?
